All honours go to England on the first day after dismissing Australia for 179.

The conditions were favourable for bowling but it was still a poor performance by the visiting team.

Apart from Marnus Labuschagne (74) and David Warner (61), it was slim pickings for the Australian batsmen, who continue to struggle. Tim Paine was the only other batsman to reach double figures.

How Australia would have loved to have Steve Smith today but he was unavailable due to concussion.

Jofra Archer gets his sixth wicket, and Australia are all out for 179 after being sent in by Joe Root. What an excellent decision that has proven to be.

Archer finishes with 6/45 - his first bag of five or more wickets in just his second Test.

Nathan Lyon was the man dismissed, trapped in front for one.

It has been a dramatic turnaround in the final session. Australia had been well placed at 2/136 but the reintroduction of Archer and Stuart Broad into the attack sparked a massive collapse in which Australia lost 8/43. It may well cost them this Test.
